11th March 2010WEYMOUTH SPEEDWAY: From Wildcats to Hornets
WEYMOUTH business man Nigel Charlton is now sponsoring Hornets instead of Wildcats.
Wessex Bus, of whom Mr Charlton and his wife Marion are the proprietors, sponsored the Weymouth Wildcats raceway and three of their riders last season but severed their ties with the club last year.
They have however kept their interest in speedway by recently being named official main team sponsor of the Newport Hornets National League speedway team for the coming season.
They will also sponsor two of the three riders, James White-Williams and Tim Webster, who have joined the Hornets from Weymouth.
Hornets co-boss Nick Mallett said: "We are delighted to have kept Nigel Charlton involved with the sport and welcome his backing for the Hornets as a whole.”
Not only have Newport picked up new sponsors, they also have a new mascot in Weymouth schoolboy Anders Rowe. He was the mascot of his home club last season but has also switched allegiance.
