11th March 2010WEYMOUTH: Come and join us!
WEYMOUTH’S latest women’s institute is to hold its first meeting next Wednesday.
The March 17th event at Barracuda in St Thomas Street will launch the newly-founded Weybay WI covering the Weymouth town and bay area.
The branch is open to local women of all ages and a busy programme is planned of social events and speakers to offer members a chance to learn new skills, take part in a variety of activities and to campaign on both national and local issues.
Members will also join the 205,000 women who belong to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes, the largest voluntary organisation for women in the UK.
Weybay WI founder and president Sandra Jones said: “Our first meeting is open to anyone who wants to join or even just meet us and we will also be revealing our future plans for the club.
“We differ from traditional institutes as we are surrounded by sea, sand and, sometimes even sun. We hope that our offer will reflect Weymouth’s vibrant personality.
“The managers at Barracuda have kindly agreed to let us hold the meeting in the upstairs bar and we hope that the atmosphere will get us off to a good start, despite not being their usual crowd!”
The launch event starts at 7.30pm and anyone interested in joining Weybay WI should contact president, Sandra Jones, on 07515-029606.
