10th March 2010WEYMOUTH: Witnesses sought to assault with a blade
A MAN suffered a badly gashed cheek after being attacked in Weymouth town centre.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the Great George Street area incident which happened between midnight and 12.20am on Sunday, March 7th.
The 30-year-old man was treated at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester.
Detective Constable Neil Gilbraith, of Weymouth CID, said: “I understand that the victim, who was accompanied by a male friend, had spent part of the night in Finns live music pub on Westham Road in the town centre.
“After leaving Finns both men may have been involved in an argument with other people – somewhere in the area of Great George Street and Westham Road – before the assault took place.
“The victim has sustained a nasty cut to his cheek which appears to have been caused by a bladed instrument of some kind.”
He added that he wanted to speak to witnesses, anyone with information about the attackers or anyone who recalls seeing or hearing an argument, possibly involving several people, in the Great George Street area during the early hours of Sunday, March 7th.
He said: “Any information, no matter how insignificant you might consider it to be, may help me to find out exactly what happened.”
Anyone who can help should call police on 01305-222222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800-555111.
