10th March 2010CHARMOUTH: Meet Charmouth’s fossil hunters
SHORELINE, Charmouth’s free quarterly village magazine, is staging a “Meet the Fossil Hunters”evening at the Village Hall this evening (Wednesday), starting at 7pm.
This is the first event staged by the magazine and a full programme will include a 1960s and 1980s archive film of Barney Hansford, who ran a fossil exhibition in Charmouth for many years, courtesy of the South West Film and Television Archive.
There will also be a 1960s Charmouth fossil hunting film featuring expert Ray Jennings, who will be present to answer questions. Charmouth Heritage Centre will also be showing their new film.
Speakers will include Richard Edmonds, the Jurassic Coast’s earth science manager, Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre warden Phil Davidson and palaeontogical preparator Andy Cowap.
Local fossil exhibits will also be on show.
Shoreline will be launching its first book - “The Fossil Hunters of Charmouth and the Charmouth Fossil Guide” - at the event with 50 per cent of profits going to the heritage centre.
