10th March 2010BRIDPORT: Inner Wheel Club welcomes new member
CLUB correspondent Jilly Dobinson reports on the latest activities of the Inner Wheel Club of Bridport:
Our club has prospered over the first two months of this new year. One meeting in January had to be cancelled due to the weather but otherwise we have braved the elements.
Members, their partners and friends enjoyed a trip to Salisbury for some shopping and to watch a wonderful performance of Noel Coward’s Private Lives at the theatre.
We had a soup luncheon at a member’s house to raise money for our chosen overseas charity, Children of Fiji, and are now looking forward to the Inner Wheel Conference to be held in Bournemouth in April where Bridport will be well represented.
Our club meeting in February was a very special one as we welcomed our district chairman, Tryphena Campkin and “Gwen” who represented the Samaritans.
President Sheila Vastenhout has chosen the Samaritans as her charity for the year and a cheque was presented to “Gwen” to be used by them to help run their office in Weymouth.
Tryphena gave us a lovely talk about Inner Wheel and reminded members of many fund-raising and social activities enjoyed by the Bridport club over the years.
President Sheila was delighted to welcome Marlyn McHugh, wife of Brit Valley Rotarian John, as a new member of the club and Marlyn received her badge of membership.
Our next meeting will take place at the Haddon House on Tuesday, March 16th when we will be listening to a talk from Roger Snook, who will be bringing along some of his magnificent titfers.
