BRIDPORT: Oscar for film with Dorset connections

A MOVIE that received its world premiere at Bridport’s Electric Palace picked up an Oscar at the glittering annual bash in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The Young Victoria, which was the first film to feature a member of the Royal family (HRH Princess Beatrice makes a cameo appearance in the movie), received the accolade for Best Costume Design.

Written by Dorchester-based Julian Fellowes, the movie was also partly filmed on location at Athelhampton House, West Dorset.

Costume designer Sandy Powell received the Oscar for her work on the period film based on the turbulent younger years of the monarch.
