24th February 2010DORSET: Tim returns to Dorset for NHS challenge
TIM Archer has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Dorset Community Health Services, the provider arm of NHS Dorset. He took up his post last week.
Tim who was Director of Delivery and Performance/Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive of the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust, will now be responsible for services that include community nursing, community hospitals and mental health services in an area stretching from Lyme Regis in the west to Christchurch in the east and Gillingham in the north.
His new role will mean a welcome return to working in Dorset. He was Director of Mental Health in the former North Dorset Primary Care Trust based at Forston Clinic near Dorchester until 2002 when he moved to work in Somerset and then Cornwall.
Tim said: “I am proud of my achievements so far and look forward to building on them in Dorset.
“My aim is to provide services that are efficient and streamlined and as good as they possibly can be.
“The most important thing about everything that we do is the quality of the service that the patient receives.”
Tim, who trained as a general nurse and mental health nurse before moving into management, gained an impressive record in improving services when he worked in Dorset before.
“As a Director of Mental Health with the North Dorset PCT, I was responsible for leading a team in achieving three-star status, and one of the top three ratings in the South West against delivering the National Service Framework for Mental Health; services that the team in Dorset have continued to build on,” said Tim.
“The Somerset Partnership became the highest performing in the South West. However Cornwall has perhaps been the greatest challenge of all, shifting an organisation not only on special measures, but in absolute crisis in terms of morale, finance and external relationships, to one recognised by the Healthcare Commission as one of the most improved in the country and well on the road to Foundation Trust status.
“Although proud of all these achievements, I think the greatest achievement was achieving them all within limited resources, and with the full involvement and partnership of the people who used and worked within the services.”
