And all that jazz

HAVING played numerous jazz festivals across the UK, the Chris Eldred Jazz Trio stops off in Lyme Regis on Thursday, March 4th.

The Trio is composed of three talented young musicians from Trinity College of Music; Chris Eldred on piano, Loz Garratt on bass and Dave Elliott on drums.

Having reached the category finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, they have since scored a wide variety of performance credits including the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and Trinity Jazz Ensemble.

Jazz festivals in which they have featured include Swanage, Greenwich, Windsor, Teignmouth, the Isle of Wight and Glastonbury.

They have performed at venues including Ronnie Scott′s Jazz Club, Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Barbican Centre in London. Collectively they also have performance experience with such musicians as Mark Lockheart (Polar Bear), Mornington Lockett (New Jazz Couriers), and Jean Toussaint (Art Blakey) and formed the rhythm section for singer Andra Sparks (Nick Weldon).

Marine Theatre Creative Director Ian Stephens said: “I invited the Chris Eldred Trio to come and play here because they have wowed audiences and critics alike through their performances at jazz festivals across the country. They deliver an exquisite range of original jazz compositions as well as their own arrangements of more traditional jazz repertoire.”
