Trio flyright into Dorset

WITH a fresh new line up, Jonty Fisher’s Flyright Trio returns to Dorset this March to inject more jazz fever!

Following on from the success of last year’s Artsreach tour, bassist Jonty Fisher returns, this time with pianist Naadia Sheriff and guitarist Chris Allard.

The trio perform their own unique arrangements, including three-part vocal harmonies, combining virtuosity and swinging rhythm with infectious joie de vivre to perform a lively evening of classic jazz.

The band pay homage to the late Nat 'King' Cole and also perform classic jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, including Cole Porter, Gershwin and Berlin.

Jonty Fisher is a prolific composer and bassist; a regular on the London music scene. Having played at many of the UK’s premier events and venues, his time is punctuated by extensive world touring as well as film, radio, television and recording appearances.

Jonty is a member of the critically acclaimed world music band Deva, and he has also appeared with Liane Carroll, Jacqui Dankworth and Don Rendell.

Since graduating from her Postgraduate Degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2002 Naadia Sheriff has been busy working as a performer, teacher (York University) and musical director (‘Live’ and a recent stint on ‘The Rat Pack’ European tour).

Naadia has performed extensively across the UK as a leader or as a sideman with – among others – Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes and Steve Waterman. She has been the soloist for the New English Orchestra and the London Jazz Orchestra featuring Alec Dankworth and Paul Clarvis.

Born into a musical family, Chris Allard studied jazz and classical guitar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London), and later studied at the Malmo Conservatoire (Sweden). He has performed with Jacqui Dankworth, Jamie Cullum, Sir John Dankworth & Dame Cleo Laine, Steve Waterman and Dave O Higgins, amongst others.

Chris has performed at a wealth of top jazz venues, including Ronnie Scotts, the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Centre, London Old Vic, Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Arts, and many other venues in Britain and around Europe.

Chris’ many festival performances include Giverny Festival, Edinburgh Festival, and Montreux Jazz Festival, where he was a finalist in the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition.

Chris has been involved in leading workshops for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and coaching sessions at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Calling all jazz lovers – don’t miss the trio at Broadwindsor Comrades Hall, Friday, March 5th, 7.30pm. Telephone 01308 868582 for more details or tickets.
