FATHERHOOD: An unknown land full of fear, trepidation and nappies.
What man could possibly resist? Few it seems (the evidence being all around us, especially when you are trying to have a quiet drink in a pub).
It is from this position of abject horror that Andrew Clover sets off on a journey of discovery (and nits) into the brave new world of fatherhood.
He is - he freely admits not one of life’s natural nurturers. Indeed he ponders on what will happen to his well-ordered existence. And yet despite his very best efforts to ignore his wife’s calls for two to become three and eventually four, and then five, he rises to the challenge.
And suddenly like a veil of fog being lifted all appears to make sense fatherhood is indeed an unknown land but one of wonder, joyfulness and errr nits (there is no escaping them apparently).
Readers of the Sunday Times will need no introduction to Dad Rules, Clover’s amusing outlook on parenting from a very male perspective as this is the stage version of his popular column and recently published book.
The Perrier Award nominee, My Almost Famous Family star and Ashes to Ashes regular is full of hilarious routines, feel good tales, and raucous stand-up.
As the man himself explains: “A lone man wearing a toddler's frilly princess pants on his head is a freak. A man with a kid doing the same: a good dad.”
Andrew Clover: Dad Rules is at the Bridport Arts Centre, South Street, on Friday, March 5th at 8pm. Call the box office on 01308 424204. Tickets priced at £10, £9 Supporters, £8 concs.
