24th February 2010Forest Forge present Free Folk
FOREST Forge brings you the world premiere of a quirky new play by the award-winning playwright Gary Owen. Free Folk is a black comedy about living in a free country but never being able to do what you really want to.
Set in a forest it follows the lives of five very different people an old lady, a young couple, an outsider, and a thief - thrown together on a dark and stormy night. Each explores their own lives as they plunder their memories in an attempt to reveal the answer to what makes a home for them.
They must question themselves and the others as they unpick the baggage that has shackled them to their current circumstances for good or for ill.
There is Pearl who simply wants to be left alone and independent in the house she grew up in but her son wants her to be sensible and move to a nursing home.
Tim is in love with a girl called Hannah and he dreams of settling down with her forever.
But Hannah has other ideas and wants to see the world from behind the wheel of her imaginary camper van.
Then there is Karen, a teacher, an outsider who only wishes to get home before dark but the Forest has other ideas.
And finally there is Shaun who is just a loveable rogue who wants to make a few extra quid by getting up to mischief.
Then again he may be a lot less loveable than his outward appearance would suggest.
Free Folk is at the Bridport Arts Centre, South Street, on Thursday, March 4th at 8pm. Call the box office on 01308 424204. Tickets priced at £10, £9 Supporters, £8 students and concs.
The Free Folk show will also be in Drimpton on Tuesday, March 2nd at the Village Hall.
