However, Lyme Media and Events Ltd have launched two new monthly titles in Somerset.

The Chard and Ilminster Journals hit the streets this week with 5,000 copies being distributed at various locations, including the major supermarkets, in the two South Somerset towns.

The monthly community journals replace the weekly View from Chard and View from Ilminster which have ceased publication following the acquisition of the Crewkerne title by Tindle Newspapers.

The new publication will be produced by the team that worked on the View from Chard and Ilminster titles, with Marion Draper looking after the editorial content and Ed Dolman responsible for advertising.

Publisher and editor Philip Evans commented: “Following the acquisition of the View from Crewkerne by Tindle Newspapers Limited, we have decided not to continue with the View from Chard and View from Ilminster.

“However, the new monthly journal will include many of the favourite sections of the View, including the 60 Seconds interview and profile on local characters.

“If the Journal is well received by readers and advertisers, we will consider publishing it on a more regular basis in the future.

“We have introduced some new features including Club of the Month and will be concentrating on community news which proved so popular in the View From series.”
