3rd February 2010WEYMOUTH: Fundraisers stage bit of a posh do!
A FUND for new recreational facilities in Chickerell has received a boost of more than £2,200.
The money was raised by A Bit of a Posh Do held at Willowbed Hall which was attended by more than 170 people who enjoyed local Chickerell band Shooter and a disco provided by Geoffrey Welsh.
There was also a buffet jointly supplied by Rural Foods of Poundbury with a kind donation of delicious dishes by Jan Miners of the Marquis of Granby.
During the evening cheques were presented to the Mayor of Chickerell John Worth, firstly by Councillor Norman Carter representing the Turks Head pub with a cheque for £1,000 followed by John Carter with a cheque for £500 from the All Souls Masonic Lodge.
The evening is thought to have raised more than £2,200 and all proceeds will be donated directly to the Chickerell @ Play fundraising group.
They are raising funds for new recreational facilities in the village including a new playground for children aged 13 and under and a multi-use games area which will be used by the Chickerell community in conjunction with Chickerell Primary School and other local groups.
Mr Worth said: “I would like to say thank you for a great evening. The fundraising team all worked so hard to make it such a fantastic event.
“It is great that the children of Chickerell will soon have a play park and multi-use games area, a great example of the Chickerell community coming together.”
