CHARD: Good year for community choir

CHARD and Ilminster’s very own choir are available to sing at local events this year including village fetes, festivals, parties, charity events or as after-dinner entertainment.

The choir has grown over seven years to become a 40-voices-strong asset and resource for the area and has enjoyed performing more locally and at Dillington House several times in 2009.

In June they sang as part of a 600-voice amalgamated choir on Bristol Waterfront in aid of Wateraid and raised £30,000.

Caroline Rigby, leader of the choir said: “If you can talk, you can sing. It’s a friendly, informal group of people who just love to sing and feel part of a choir. There is something so special about singing in a group.”

People come from Chard, Ilminster, Crewkerne and the surrounding villages to sing in the choir.

There are a few places available at the moment, you can be any age and there is no audition. The group would particularly welcome more male voices.

Caroline added: “Come along for great songs from around the world, great company, and great fun. You can be sure of a real welcome.”

The group will be singing every Wednesday evening in Chard Town Hall, starting on Wednedsay, January 13th at 7.15pm with a free taster session.

For more information about joining call Sandra on (01460) 52392 or Julie on (01460) 72143.
