Oldest resident dies aged 109

ONE of Somerset’s oldest residents, Doris Hunt, from Combe St Nicholas has died at the age of 109.

On recent birthdays she had received congratulatory cards from The Queen.

Mrs Hunt was born in Manchester and knew of life in the cotton mills. In her early days she travelled to Montreal where she married John Duke Hunt.

Years later the couple moved to Somerset where until the death of her husband in 1994 she lived at The Maltings, Chard, but moved to live with her son and daughter-in-law Harry and Anne Hunt at Combe St Nicholas.

Mrs Hunt was a skilful whist player and regularly visited The Maltings to join in a game with her friends.
