MERRIOTT: Social club saved

A VILLAGE community group which was teetering on the brink of closure just weeks ago has been saved.

Members of the Merriott Social Club issued an urgent appeal in late March for new committee members to step forward.

Unless sufficient new volunteers emerged within days, the club faced being wound-up.

But writing in the latest village magazine, a spokesman proudly announced: “We are very pleased that following our AGM we are moving forward with a strong committee.

“A huge ‘thank you’ to the outgoing committee members who have worked extremely hard over the last year to help with the continued improvements at the club.

“Our new committee aims to continue to make improvements to Merriott Social Club and always welcomes suggestions.”

And the new committee has already put together a monthly programme of special events for the rest of this year, including music nights, skittles championships, a Diamond Jubilee party, an adults only cabaret, a family conker night, and a Halloween bash.
