17th February 2012HONITON: Lions donate £500 to Freewheelers charity
MEMBERS of Honiton and District Lions have handed over a cheque for £500 to one of their chosen charities of the year.
The Devon Freewheelers is a volunteer-based charity that delivers supplies, including blood, to NHS facilities across the county during out of office hours.
As well as delivering blood, they also deliver organs, medicines and drugs, breast milk and equipment.
Lions President Brian Richards presented a cheque for £500 to Freewheelers’ volunteers Dan Lavery and Kevin Lee during their monthly meeting.
Lions member Bob Francis said: “Honiton and District Lions were proud to have Dan Lavery and Kevin Lee from Devon Freewheelers visiting, so we could present them with £500 towards the fantastic work they are doing in the area.
“This has to be an organisation that everyone should know about, given the work they do in all weathers and all voluntary.
“These guys seem to be one of the best kept secrets in Devon and the Lions would like everyone to understand the work done by the Freewheelers is invaluable.”
