17th February 2012AXMINSTER: Councillors reject houses only plan for eyesore site
AXMINSTER town councillors have rejected plans for 37 new homes to be built on one of the town’s long-standing eyesores.
As reported in last week’s Weekender, East Devon District Council has received a planning application from Brookvale Homes (SW) to build 37 units on the site of the former Rodney Rendell Farm and Dairy Engineers which has stood derelict for at least two decades.
It is Brookvale Homes’ intention to work with the Hastoe Housing Association to create the maximum number of affordable houses depending on available funding from the Homes and Community Agency.
A previous planning application for 19 work/live units was approved by the district council several years ago but the scheme never materialised.
Matt Fost, an architect with Boon Brown Planning, from Yeovil, attended Monday’s council meeting to give details of the new application for 21 houses and 16 flats.
But the town planning committee who considered the application after the meeting decided that the land should remain as designated in the Local Plan for employment, although they might consider a split site.
