3rd February 2012SIDMOUTH: Charity launches drop in Saturdays
A Sidmouth charity is launching its 2012 drop in sessions for children with special needs and their families to take part in riding therapy with its donkeys.
The charity’s drop in sessions, known as Saturday Clubs, will be running on the second Saturday of each month, starting February 11th at the Sidmouth centre of The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST), located within the grounds of The Donkey Sanctuary.
Saturday Club is an open morning when children with special needs are able to ride the donkeys with their brothers and sisters. It is also a chance to visit adoption donkeys, relax over a cup of tea or coffee and meet other parents, carers and supporters.
Lauriel Woodley, manager of the Sidmouth centre, said: “For families with children with special needs or disabilities it can be a real challenge to find activities that all your children can enjoy together.
“The beauty of riding therapy with our donkeys is that the children are able to leave their disability at the door and share a fun morning with their siblings.
“We also have family drop in clubs during half term holidays and are looking forward to welcoming plenty of families for fun filled mornings with our gorgeous donkeys.”
Saturday Clubs are open between 10am and 1pm. To book a time for a riding therapy session, please contact the centre on 01395 573009.
The sessions run on the second Saturday of each month, with the exception of April, August and December, when the centre offers seasonal activities and events. EST Sidmouth has been providing riding therapy with donkeys to children throughout Devon since 1978.
Around 150 local children with special needs and disabilities visit the centre each week for therapeutic riding sessions.
The charity also provides outreach visits with donkeys to residents of nursing homes, hospices and care homes. For more information about EST visit www.elisabethsvendsentrust.org.uk.
