DORCHESTER: Putting out the flags for Olympics

Town Crier Alistair Chisholm has called for Dorchester’s main street to be decorated with 211 international flags when the Olympics comes to the county.

He has costed the project at £7,500 – to include the cost of flags, planning permission, fixing brackets to buildings along the High Street, and putting the flags up.

“Although some of us are a little cynical about this Greatest Show on Earth let us put ourselves in the mind of a child and imagine what an impact it would have,” he told town councillors.

“I am mindful that these are hard times but wouldn’t it be splendid to have the flags of all the nations decorating the High Street.”
