WEST DORSET: Exhibiting the best of Dorset

By Harry Walton

AN official launch has been held for the 2012 Best of Dorset Show.

The event took place at the Riviera Hotel at Bowleaze which is the main sponsor for the day-long event at Weymouth Pavilion on March 25th.

It with be the 12th year of the show and 2012 will include the Weymouth and Portland 2012 Operations Team who will be on hand to advise on all up to date issues surrounding the Weymouth and Portland Olympic and Paralympic Games Sailing Events.

The Riviera will also be exhibiting and visitors will be able to find out all about the extensively refurbished and upgraded 98-bedroom site.

General manager Kevin Bungay said: “We have the main stand and we are really looking forward to the event.

“We decided to sponsor Best of Dorset because it is a beautiful county and we felt we needed to do everything to support it.

“Our product depends on Dorset both for the food and entertainment we provide and for the local attractions which bring people to stay at our hotel.”

The annual leisure show offers Dorset-based attractions, businesses and organisations a unique opportunity to promote their services and facilities to the public and trade at this high profile show.

Each year the Best of Dorset show gives many local exhibitors, performers and entertainers the opportunity to perform and showcase their talents.

More than 1,500 show visitors pack the theatre and performance areas to appreciate the talent of many Dorset based entertainers and bookings for 2012 include WOW Youth Theatre, the Nothe Fort Reenactment group, Ed Hintz, Punch and Judy and community singers.

Weymouth’s famous tall ship TS Pelican will also be taking part and visitors can welcome her into harbour mid-afternoon and enjoy a free tour of the ship.

Weymouth and Portland tourism spokesman Councillor Andy Blackwood said: “As the country experiences a challenging economic time it makes this show even more significant, a recognisable and important boost for our local economy”.

Exhibitors who wish to book a stand can get further details from Charlie Sheppard on 01305-838512. The closing date is February 10th.
