Hawkchurch tame Hounds in cup upset
SIDMOUTH Town matched high-flying Galmpton before going down 3-1 in last Saturday’s South-West Peninsula League Division One Clash at Manstone.
Adam Whitty put the Vikings ahead and almost added a second only to be denied by the woodwork.
But the visitors leveled before the interval and siezed the initiative after the break forcing two penalties, the first of which - awarded against ‘keeper Luke Ashford was considered “Harsh” by Sidmouth manager Paddy Thomas. Both spot-kicks were were converted to give Galmpton all three points.
Thomas was however impressed by his team, he said: “Our first-half performance was the best since I took over and had we taken our chances who knows what might have happened? Adam Whitty was terrific and a lot of positives came out of this game.”
Sidmouth entertain Stoke Gabriel tomorrow. Lewis Couch is missing (groin) and there are doubts over Tom Chaplin and Pete Grover who are both carrying ankle injuries.
Squad: Ashford, Whitty, Badcock, Tarr, Thomas, Burdus, Banks, Beacham, Stamp, Brace, Baker, Thomson, Grover, Fayter-Small.
Jamie Chamberlain netted his first goal since returning to Axminster Town after a brief spell with Stoke Gabriel but couldn’t save the Tigers from a 2-1 defeat at Alphington.
The Tigers, who have now lost 12 games on the spin, could have their hands full again tomorrow when they travel to league leaders Liverton United.
It’s a similar story over at Washbrook Meadows where Ottery St Mary went down 3-0 at home against Crediton United. The Otters travel to Foxhayes to take on Exeter Civil Service tomorrow.
DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE
Premier Division
SEATON Town battled back from 2-0 down at half-time to earn what could be a pivotal 3-2 win at Clyst Valley in their quest for the Premier Division title.
Dan Norman reduced the arrears from the penalty spot before Cameron Vere, pressed into service up front in a bid to change things around, headed home a leveler (memories of Dad Graham ‘Percy’ Vere!) before a rare long-range scorcher from Charlie Cross completed the comeback.
Greens manager Josh Stunell is still without the unavailable Josh French for tomorrow’s visit by Willand Rovers Reserves but Rikki Sargent, back from uni, comes into the squad.
Squad: D.Perham, Highet, Durrant, Cross, Sargent, Vincent, Matt Hancock, Wheatley, Ede, Alphonse, Mark Hancock, Norman, Vere, Perham.

Division One
THE Feniton squad for tomorrow’s trip to Cullompton will be boosted by the return of Elliott Dyer and ‘keeper Matt Kingdon as they look to recover from a 2-1 defeat at Exmouth Amateurs.
“We were not at our best. With a few regulars missing it told in our overall play although the effort of those available was good” said Fenny manager Mark Kingdon.

Division Two
COLYTON manager Keith Somers is disappointed to have lost talented Nick Pritchard, he said: “Nick has moved to Southend - We reckon he wants to join the cast of TOWIE! He will be a big loss for the remainder of the campaign.
“It looks like everybody else will be available for tomorrow’s trip to league leaders Tiverton Reserves.”
After having last weekend’s scheduled trip to Westexe Rovers postponed Somers has his fingers firmly crossed that the game goes ahead. “I noticed that the Tivvy first team had their game postponed on Tuesday after a pitch inspection”.
Squad: Reid, Waddon, Webber, Platts, M.Potter, Sims, J.Potter, Moore, Maddocks, Gooding, Somers, Tucker, Tratt, Young.
A host of injuries means Honiton Town manager Garry Osbourne was unable to confirm his squad at time of going to press, he said: “I’ve got six players struggling, but we’ll still give a good account of ourselves”.
Osbourne takes his depleted squad off to Sidmouth Reserves looking to continue their unbeaten run which was extended by an impressive 0-0 draw at Chard Town Reserves last weekend.
Division Three
UPOTTERY put a huge dent in Lymstone’s promotion push with a gutsy 4-3 away win last Saturday.
Catlin Pilaru and Charlie Lane both scored twice for the Otters who face another of the Division’s high-fliers when they make the short trip for a local-derby with Colaton Raleigh.
Manager Dan Prettejohn has named to following squad: Trevisick, Sawyer, Gammidge, Moore, Crabb, Button-Stephens, Coombe, Tucker, Bailey, K.Lane, C.Lane, Winslade, Pislaru, Reed, Smart, Pring.

The Hammers, who slipped to sixth in the table as a result, entertain lowly Dunkeswell Rovers tomorrow.
PERRY STREET LEAGUE
FARWAY United were handed their biggest defeat for three years as they were surprisingly thrashed 7-1 at previously bottom-of-the-table Perry Street. Matt Reed scored the Farway consolation - but with the score standing at 7-0 at the time the horse had long since bolted.
Farway are in Challenge Cup action tomorrow when they travel to Henhayes to take on Crewkerne Town.
Farway Reserves had a much better time of it as they returned from Hawkchurch Reserves with three points after player-manager Greg McCollum and Steven Craft both scored twice in a 5-1 victory. Hawks’ skipper Steven Harding bagged the consolation from the penalty spot.
Like their first team colleagues, Farway are in cup action tormorrow and they too travel to Crewkerne to face Crewkerne Rangers Reserves in the quarter-final of the Kenny Hodges Cup.
After a weekend off Millwey Rise will be looking to break back into the promotion places at the top of Division One when they make the short trip to Tatworth to take on Perry Street Reserves. The team will have happy memories of the reverse fixture back in November when they mauled the Mothers 11-1 on their debut at Harry’s Field.
Meanwhile the Millwey Reserve team booked a a Daisy Hutchings Cup quarter-final with Crewkerne Rangers when Levi Hoole and Mark Pike both scored twice in a 7-1 win over Barrington Reserves. Millwey entertain Division Three title-favourites Chard United tomorrow.
In the same competition Hawkchurch United caused something of a shock when Ollie Shultz and Gavin Herrod netted in a 2-1 win over high-flying Waytown Hounds.
The Hawks turn their attention to the Division Three relegation battle when they welcome rivals Forton Reserves tomorrow.
Hawkchurch Reserves have a Kenny Hodges Cup Quarter-Final at Lyme Regis Bantams.
