25th January 2012BRIDPORT: New owners for AmSafe
A BRIDPORT business has been sold in a multi-million pound cash deal.
The Bridport arm of AmSafe Global Holdings Inc, which operate from the former Bridport Gundry site in the town centre, has been sold for the third time since 2003 in a deal worth a reported US$750 million.
Amsafe’s Bridport based operation was sold to aviation company Transdigm Group Inc.
Ian Kentfield, managing director of AmSafe Bridport, said it was too early to know exactly what changes would occur because of the sale.
He said: “It’s early days at this point but they are an aviation company that has a number of other businesses and they tend to keep businesses for the long term. We are very optimistic for the future.
“We are not expecting massive problems and see this as another positive step in the future of AmSafe Bridport.
“We have been through two sets of sales in the last eight years and each time it has been a positive development for the company.”
AmSafe employs around 150 people in Bridport and is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of cargo restraint products for both aerospace and military use.
The company’s products are on virtually all of the world’s airlines with the Bridport arm supplying aeroplane firms Boeing and Airbus.
