17th July 2009Positive feedback from the public
WITH its public consultation period on the draft new Managment Plan about to end, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Team is planning closer public involvement to maintain interest and understanding in the special features of the area.
The Jurassic Coast team has received more than 70 inviting opinion about the site’s new governing document.
The team will produce its assessment of the feedback in early July.
“We have received some very positive feedback from the public,” team leader Sam Rose told View from the Jurassic Coast.
“At a community forum meeting in Bridport in early May, we talked about all sorts of ideas for getting more people involved.
We’re thinking of a Jurassic Coast Champion community champions scheme, for instance, as well as getting involved in more community events, talks, exhibits in local fairs, resources in schools, games, and other activities.”
He did caution, however, that these are only ideas at present.
The key objective, which Mr Rose emphasised though, is to integrate people in the community with the planned activities, as the team’s studies have shown that the World Heritage Status is already benefiting the local population, both economically and socially.
