Thief having a bad hair day?

WHETHER it was shopping for a girlfriend or plain, mindless, vandalism,  two hairdressers in Crewkerne were left dismayed after their shop windows were smashed late last Sunday night, by a thief who seemed to have a hair problem.

In both cases, hair straightening tongs were taken from the window displays, and nothing else.

Judy’s salon on Market Street had a top of the line GHD Rare with leopard print pouch in a black velvet case stolen. At Juliette’s in South Street a set of mini straighteners by Headgear worth £19.99 was taken.

Disturbances were heard by neighbours on South Street, who were watching television at approximately 12.30am and told the hairdresser they heard raised voices.

Judy Holt, who has not yet returned to work after being off sick for over three months, said it was really upsetting, as she tried to sort out her insurance and get the window boarded on Monday afternoon.

“Crewkerne has been so quiet recently,” she remarked, “it’s a real shame.

“Here I am, not even back to work yet and I’m trying to get my window fixed, all that damage for one thing, it’s crazy.

“Several people have said they heard a lot of arguing or shouting going on this weekend so hopefully they will find who did it.”

Juliette McKelvie commented: “It’s the inconvenience, I have had to pay out £600 to get my window fixed this morning, all for the sake of a pair of tongs worth £19.99. I don’t know yet what will happen with my insurance. It makes you wonder if someone was shopping for their girlfriend or something.”

A rock was found  on the premises at Juliette’s which could have been used to break both windows.

Police were making enquiries this week and would be grateful for any information, particularly if anyone has been offered the items for sale. Call 0845 456 7000 and ask for Crewkerne Police station or you can speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
