A brave pensioner saw off a 29-year old man she confronted when he got into her Dorchester flat.
The pensioner – an 84-year-old woman – disturbed the man as he looked for items to steal in her flat in Linden Aveneue.
He ran off when she shouted at him and ran out of the flat and along Linden Avenue.
Police are later appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward in confidence.
They said that at about 2pm on Tuesday, June 23rd, the pensioner disturbed a man inside her flat on Linden Avenue forcing him to run down Linden Avenue towards Acland Road.
Detective Constable Simon Austin of Weymouth CID, said: “The occupier – an 84-year-old woman – was not injured in any way and I understand that she shouted at the man and this may have made him run off.
“I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area, or running away after the incident.
“I would also like to hear from anyone else who has any other information that might assist me with my investigation into this incident and I’d like to re-assure the public that all calls will be treated in total confidence.”
A 29-year-old Dorchester man was arrested in the town later the same day and held in custody “assisting police with their enquiries into the incident”.
